Winter

Now that it is the end of January I think it is time for spring to come. I know that it will still be cold for probably another two months, I wish it would start to warm up. This may seem irrelevant but since groundhog day is this Monday it is in a way relevant. Now that we have had the bitterly cold weather for a few months it is time for it to warm up. The one great thing about winter is the snow. However, I think we have had enough snow for one winter. Even if the weather got a little warmer it would be grand. We do not need summer weather yet but above freezing would be nice.

Inauguration

The Inauguration of our new president happened on January 20, 2009. The date was filled with history of past Inaugurations. The new President Barack Obama participated in many inauguration traditions. The traditions included a morning worship service, the procession to the capital where the outgoing president accompanies the soon to be president to the swearing-in ceremony, addresses, parades, and balls.
All the events made for a memorable day, but it had a costly price tag. The price tag for the day is expected to break records. The estimates for the day go as high as $150 million. Some believe that the expensive day is the last thing that people need in the current economy. However, others say that the day gives them hope and despite the price tag it was needed to show change in the country.

The Golden Globe Awards

January 10, 2009, was the 66 annual Golden Globe awards. More than 50 stars presented the awards, and more than 160 countries have the chance to watch the awards. The for each category there were five nominees but only one winner. These winners included Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler, Sally Hawkins for Happy-go-lucky, and Kate Winslet for The reader and many many more.
The Golden Globes also showed the latest fashion trends. Some of thee trends that were seen on the carpet included the classic black-and-white, trendy metallics, the all black gowns, bright bold shoes, and hard case clutches from patent to jewels.
The awards also showed some best dressed and worst dressed stars. Algelenia Jolie was put on the best dressed list for the night in a pale blouson gown by Versace. Even though she was on the best dressed it wasn't my favorite dress for her. The gown looked too big for her body. Put on the worst dressed list for the evening was Renee Zellweger in a black gown by Carolina Herrera. The top of the dress was way too sheer and the bottom didn't even go with it. The bottom of the dress was way over the top, and may have been fine with a different top. I can't think of the top of the dress ever being fine but the bottom of the dress could have looked nice if it was a strapless dress with a classic silhouette. America Ferrera made the best dressed list for the evening also. The dress was a different style than most with a cocktail length skirt on the list but it was a big hit. Blake Lively how ever was not so lucky and made the worst dressed list for the event. The strapless blue gown wasn't a horrible gown, but it was not the right fit for her al all. The dress showed many of the flaws that Blake doesn't have. Marisa Tomei also had the same fate as Blake and made the worst dressed list. The ensemble was a total flop and the red carpet. Personally, I would say the outfit would be more appropriate for a costume party. It resembled a pirate with the tiered sleeves, the belt, and the long necklaces. January Jones not only won a globe for "best TV drama" but also won best dressed. She looked stunning in her ice blue gown on the red carpet. The style of the dress was very in and looked perfect on her.
