Holocaust

I think this short video shows some of the horrible thing that happened in the past. What happened to the Jewish people was absolutely terrible. I can not understand how they can treat people like that, as if they were not even people. I think the stories of survivors of concentration camps are difficult stories that need to be told. The world needs to know the horrors that people went through during the holocaust. The holocaust is an important part of world history that all people should be educated on. It is hard to believe that something so horrendous happened in the last century, but it is also hard to believe that some people do not believe it happened. Everyone should learn about what happened because if people do not know history it is bound to repeat itself, and the holocaust is one thing that should never be relived.

Gossip

I think this is a good analogy for gossip. It really show what gossip can do, and how awful it is. I think it shows how once something is said it really can not be taken back. We must always choose our words carefully because we may regret them later. Gossip is the kind of thing that many people will regret later in life. Once something is said about someone it can not be unsaid, and their reputation can not be mended so easily. Gossip can easily ruin someone's reputation and trust in the person who gossips. Trust and a person's reputation will not be easy to get back no matter how hard a person may try.

Genome project

For my genre of music I chose doo-wop. Doo-wop is usually associated with the fifties. I chose this genre because the 1950's is one of my favorite decades. The doo-wop music is very harmonious with a lot of melodies. I tried to choose songs that really showed the true doo-wop. The songs I chose showed the main traits of doo-wop, and showed them well. The songs had the harmonious voices and the senseless lyrics so often associated with doo-wop. I tried to pick songs that embodies doo-wop but were still different, so I tried to choose some fast and slower songs. Overall, I really enjoyed the project and learned a lot about a genre of music that I did not really know much about but I enjoyed listening to it.

Spring Break

Overall my spring was pretty good. I didn't go anywhere but it was still fun at home. I was in our church's Passion play, it actually turned out much better than anyone expected it to. One of my favorite things about break is the chance to relax, so that's what I did. I spent time with some friends. We played games like Skip Bo and Phase Ten, watched movies, and we drank koolaid. My friends and I tried to make a domino shape, but it didn't work because it fell to many times and we lost patience. I had a lot of fun on spring break but I wish it had been a little warmer because it was rather chilly.

inspirational picture

I think this in very inspirational picture. In my opinion it shows a beautiful part of the world. The picture looks so peaceful and perfect that it shows there is good in the world. At times when the world seems so cruel I would like to look at a picture like this because it shows the world has good in it. It seemed to be such a peaceful picture that it has an instantly calming effect. This is an inspirational picture to me because it shows the world at its best. In my opinion a sunset is one of the most beautiful things to see and this sunset is one of the best.

Lent

For lent this year I decided to do extra things in my church, so I am helping with our parish' Passion play. It is a lot of fun, but it involves a lot of practice time. Most of the play is based off certain songs so the timing of everything must be perfect. I am really enjoying being in the play with other teenagers from my parish. We will perform the play on Palm Sunday at put church, it should be a lot of fun. I think participating in our Passion play is a great way to celebrate the Lenten season.

Future Career

When I grow up I want to be a teacher. I would like to be a math teacher at a high school one day. I know... weird, but I have always loved math. Math has always been my favorite subject and then one day I decided that when I grow up I want to be a math teacher. I had some great teachers in the past who loved the subject they taught and were enthusiastic about it. The enthusiasm they showed made me want to be a teacher later in life. They inspired want to become a teacher and show the enthusiasm they had when teaching.

Service Project

Right now I am helping out with my church's CCD program to earn service hours.  I am usually with the older kids, the 7th and 8th graders, but I think it would be a lot of fun to help out with younger kids too. I have helped out with it before but this year is different for the 8th grade confirmation class (the class I help out with.) To be confirmed they made more requirements for the kids, such as participating in our church's youth group, and moved confirmation to September.  I try to encourage the kids to go to youth group and to get into it because they are will have to participate in it anyways.

New Project

We have been working on the iphoto name project. I think it was a fun project to work on. Finding pictures to resemble letters of my name could sometimes be difficult, such as the letter "K." Other letters were difficult also but "k" was the hardest letter for me. Looking through pictures to find things that look like letters or pictures that describe me turned out to be really enjoyable. Finding pictures to describe me was fun, but it was hard to think of things that describe me. I think it was a really great project, the hardest part for me was picking pictures because i am incredibly indecisive but overall it was fun.

NASA

accretiondisk_hst_big.gif.jpg

Explanation:
Our Sun is unusual in that it is alone - most stars occur in multiple or binary systems. In a binary system, the higher mass star will evolve faster and will eventually become a compact object - either a white dwarf star, a neutron star, or black hole. When the lower mass star later evolves into an expansion phase, it may be so close to the compact star that its outer atmosphere actually falls onto the compact star. Such is the case diagrammed above. Here gas from a blue giant star is shown being stripped away into an accretion disk around its compact binary companion. Gas in the accretion disk swirls around, heats up, and eventually falls onto the compact star. Extreme conditions frequently occur on the surface of the compact star as gas falls in, many times causing detectable X-rays, gamma-rays, or even cataclysmic novae explosions. Studying the extreme conditions in these systems tells us about the inner properties of ordinary matter around us.

Nemiroff, Robert, and Jerry Bonnell. "Astronomy Picture of the Day." NASA. Ed.
Robert Nemiroff and Jerry Bonnell. 18 Feb. 2009 .

I picked this picture because I found it to be an extremely unique photo. It was taken on my Birthday, December 19 in the year 1999. The picture shows science, but it is also a piece of art. The colors of the photo are so vibrant that it may seem more like art than science to some people. When I first saw it, I just thought it was a cool looking picture, but after I read about the picture I thought it was really interesting. I think that it is amazing what scientist can tell from one picture, or what one picture can show. The science that is behind all the picture of the galaxies is simply mind-boggling to me.

Cats

This is really random, but I did not know what to write about so my friend ,Sawyer, told me to write about cats. So, here it goes. Cats were thought to be gods in ancient Egypt. They were admired in many cultures. Today, many people prefer cats to dogs. Personally, I like cat and dogs. Well, lets talk about why people love cats so much. Cats do not have to go outside to go to the bathroom, which is very convenient in winter. Cats are so fuzzy and lovable many people just like them as company. Cats can be very entertaining. My friend's cat, Gizmo, will sneak up on you and try to jump and attack you.

Athletes

Is the media going too far and posting stories about athletes taking drugs and steroids? No matter what they do the media will be watching their every move. Personally, I do not think that will change anytime soon, the media will always have a watchful eye on professional athletes as they do celebrities. The athletes are looked on as role models to many people. Their fans find out all the good they have done though the media. However, they also find out all the not so great thing that they do, such as do drugs or take steroids. No matter what the athletes do they will always be in the public eye, weather its right for the media to expose them or not.

Colors

This may seem very random, but randomness is always fun. I think colors are one of the best things in the world. Colors just brighten everything. Without colors life would just be dull. For me, just looking at bright colors can make me happy. The colors all around us can mean different things. Dark colors can show sadness or anger. On the other hand, bright colors can make people happy and optimistic. Colors can also bring back memories, for example if I see something bright blue it will remind me of the ocean and grand summer memories. Everything around us is in color, and can make the world a better place. One of the most beautiful sights to see is a sunset. Waht would a sunset be without the briliant pinks, oranges, and purples?

Housing Crisis

A major crisis in todays world is the increase of housing foreclosure. Cities throughout the country are seeing an increase of housing foreclosure. The mortgage foreclosure crisis is having bad effects for many cities. Since the crisis started cities are seeing a drop in their revenues. The revenues are dropping but the services needed are in greater demand.  A increase of crimes is also an effect of the crisis. There are more crimes going on, but there is not enough money to have more cops on the street. There are now more homelessness and more vacant property. Many cities are seeing an increase in need for temporary and emergency housing.

Winter

Now that it is the end of January I think it is time for spring to come. I know that it will still be cold for probably another two months, I wish it would start to warm up. This may seem irrelevant but since groundhog day is this Monday it is in a way relevant. Now that we have had the bitterly cold weather for a few months it is time for it to warm up. The one great thing about winter is the snow. However, I think we have had enough snow for one winter. Even if the weather got a little warmer it would be grand. We do not need summer weather yet but above freezing would be nice.

Inauguration

The Inauguration of our new president happened on January 20, 2009. The date was filled with history of past Inaugurations. The new President Barack Obama participated in many inauguration traditions. The traditions included a morning worship service, the procession to the capital where the outgoing president accompanies the soon to be president to the swearing-in ceremony, addresses, parades, and balls.
All the events made for a memorable day, but it had a costly price tag. The price tag for the day is expected to break records. The estimates for the day go as high as $150 million. Some believe that the expensive day is the last thing that people need in the current economy. However, others say that the day gives them hope and despite the price tag it was needed to show change in the country.

The Golden Globe Awards

January 10, 2009, was the 66 annual Golden Globe awards. More than 50 stars presented the awards, and more than 160 countries have the chance to watch the awards. The for each category there were five nominees but only one winner. These winners included Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler, Sally Hawkins for Happy-go-lucky, and Kate Winslet for The reader and many many more.
The Golden Globes also showed the latest fashion trends. Some of thee trends that were seen on the carpet included the classic black-and-white, trendy metallics, the all black gowns, bright bold shoes, and hard case clutches from patent to jewels.
The awards also showed some best dressed and worst dressed stars. Algelenia Jolie was put on the best dressed list for the night in a pale blouson gown by Versace. Even though she was on the best dressed it wasn't my favorite dress for her. The gown looked too big for her body. Put on the worst dressed list for the evening was Renee Zellweger in a black gown by Carolina Herrera. The top of the dress was way too sheer and the bottom didn't even go with it. The bottom of the dress was way over the top, and may have been fine with a different top. I can't think of the top of the dress ever being fine but the bottom of the dress could have looked nice if it was a strapless dress with a classic silhouette. America Ferrera made the best dressed list for the evening also. The dress was a different style than most with a cocktail length skirt on the list but it was a big hit. Blake Lively how ever was not so lucky and made the worst dressed list for the event. The strapless blue gown wasn't a horrible gown, but it was not the right fit for her al all. The dress showed many of the flaws that Blake doesn't have. Marisa Tomei also had the same fate as Blake and made the worst dressed list. The ensemble was a total flop and the red carpet. Personally, I would say the outfit would be more appropriate for a costume party. It resembled a pirate with the tiered sleeves, the belt, and the long necklaces. January Jones not only won a globe for "best TV drama" but also won best dressed. She looked stunning in her ice blue gown on the red carpet. The style of the dress was very in and looked perfect on her.
